Another Pinoy Musician in World News

Arnel Pineda - not Arnold, as I've been told - became the lead singer of the 80's band Journey (Open Arms, Don't Stop Believing, Who's Crying Now, Separate Ways, Send Her My Love, Faithfully, Ask the Lonely - sorry, I own their second album on CASSETTE) after he was discovered in youtube singing just like original lead singer on youtube.

What's funny about this is that it was part of what made me out of place in those conversations I was talking about last post.

Even though (with a bit of bitterness) I told my friend I couldn't relate because I haven't seen the youtube videos, he insisted that I could just because I know the band, even though I had to take his word for it how the singer sounds like, and it really didn't further the topic much.

A Conversational Wallflower

Echoing the experience of one of my students, I recently had the discomfort of being at a meal where people were talking about something I hadn't seen: the finale of The Amazing Race Asia 2. So I just looked out into the skyline and imagined the monster from Cloverfield ravaging the buildings in the middle distance.

What made it somewhat worse was that despite my admitting to them that I couldn't relate, the feeling was repeated after dinner when they were discussing - very animatedly - about the US presidential candidates.

I mean, it's the kind of topic that you'd want to have an opinion about if it were a state dinner, but not when you're with supposedly intimate friends.

LIFE in Springfield

The game that my friends and I bought over the weekend and played was The Game of Life: Simpsons Edition. It has great 3D renderings of the Simpsons' house, the power plant, the school, the church, Burns' manor and the school, among others.

I don't know if Star Cinema did any research before deciding on the title for their post-Valentine movie, but it's similar to an HBO original series about polygamy. But the question is, how much of their target audience will really know?
