Another Pinoy Musician in World News

Arnel Pineda - not Arnold, as I've been told - became the lead singer of the 80's band Journey (Open Arms, Don't Stop Believing, Who's Crying Now, Separate Ways, Send Her My Love, Faithfully, Ask the Lonely - sorry, I own their second album on CASSETTE) after he was discovered in youtube singing just like original lead singer on youtube.

What's funny about this is that it was part of what made me out of place in those conversations I was talking about last post.

Even though (with a bit of bitterness) I told my friend I couldn't relate because I haven't seen the youtube videos, he insisted that I could just because I know the band, even though I had to take his word for it how the singer sounds like, and it really didn't further the topic much.

A Conversational Wallflower

Echoing the experience of one of my students, I recently had the discomfort of being at a meal where people were talking about something I hadn't seen: the finale of The Amazing Race Asia 2. So I just looked out into the skyline and imagined the monster from Cloverfield ravaging the buildings in the middle distance.

What made it somewhat worse was that despite my admitting to them that I couldn't relate, the feeling was repeated after dinner when they were discussing - very animatedly - about the US presidential candidates.

I mean, it's the kind of topic that you'd want to have an opinion about if it were a state dinner, but not when you're with supposedly intimate friends.

LIFE in Springfield

The game that my friends and I bought over the weekend and played was The Game of Life: Simpsons Edition. It has great 3D renderings of the Simpsons' house, the power plant, the school, the church, Burns' manor and the school, among others.

Their Big Love

I don't know if Star Cinema did any research before deciding on the title for their post-Valentine movie, but it's similar to an HBO original series about polygamy. But the question is, how much of their target audience will really know?

I Couldn't Take It Anymore

Even though I had just been revived, since I didn't have a toolbox, I couldn't find any safehouse and I was running out of AP, for the first time in UD I decided to jump from a window and deprive some shambler of the XP.

Might stay unrevived for a while. JP, are you still playing?

When God Closes A Door...

Size Does Matter

I'm not exactly skinny, and for some reason, a lot of my friends are of similar girth. So when we gather together and ride the bus or watch a movie, beware the person sitting behind us who starts thumping the seat.

Just one look back is enough. It's not intentional. We absolutely have no idea how menacing our silhuoettes look blocking the movie screen.

But it makes them stop and apologize. And for once, we are grateful that our mere countenance is sufficient to demand some respect.

Maintenance Free

Taken from today's Inquirer, pardon me if I advocate this:

Big Brothers

Just when you (faculty and students) thought you would have more freedom here than any other nearby campus under the brothers, apparently, THEY are making note of any exploitations of loopholes.

So you still have to watch what you do.

OVER FIELD

Yeah, there's a new monster to fear, and it looks like it hasn't gone away for good, and we may see it from another point of view soon.

Though Blair Witch Project still stands out for me in that I had a semi-nightmare about it immediately after watching, this ranks up there too. And we know the creator isn't a one trick pony at that. Looking forward to more.

So Much for Solidarity

No, I'm not talking about the prayer vigil yesterday in CSB, or the movie above (which I haven't seen by the way).

This is about this inane summer trip that I'm forced to go on. First of all, it's in a place that can't accommodate all the possible participants. Therefore, they have to have three batches.

And when people get to choose when they want to go on the trip, it's not a team-building activity anymore, because people will start to avoid going with those they dislike. It's now a rift-building activity.

A Time to Play

The mouse thought the cat would be there, so it wasn't looking forward to play. Now, apparently, the cat is away, so the mouse is preparing to party...

And yes, I'm talking about something related to my life. What is it? Well, other people in school may be asked about who's going "away" for some time...

Supposed to Be a Two Way Street

I, along with another guest, were civil, in allowing our time to be spent well beyond what we had first planned, despite the breaking of a promise that we wouldn't be held for longer than we were, especially with the long commute home ahead.

I would have expected the same civility that I went there to be with my friends, and that all my friends would be there for me to enjoy their company.

Organized Chaos

This is what one of my friends got over the weekend, which we played. It doesn't have the feel of the arena, the "schoolyard pick" of men at the start was tedious - and it's winning by eliminating everyone else, so it wasn't really that great. But it was short - finished in under an hour - unlike some of the other games we've played.

At least it was something new.

Division in Assembly

The term was used in the general assembly I attended earlier, about a point of contention that could not be resolved.

But, since I just lectured about it yesterday, something else came to mind when I heard those two words.
