Identified Flying Object

When I used to hold early evening stargazing sessions for the students, our attention on the sky sometimes found star-size objects moving in one direction across the sky. The students mistook it for a UFO, but I told them those are artificial satellites, and due to the angle of the sun relative to their position, it's one of only two times they could be seen.

This morning, leaving the house at 5am, I saw my first pre-sunrise satellite, travelling west to east, and fading from sight as it moved to where the sun was.

Self Delusion Necessary for Continued (If Shortened) Survival?

I guess, just like the Darwin Awards, stupid people think they're not in danger until they're suddenly in front of the Pearly Gates.

Holy Week Focus

I started playing this on the Wednesday of Holy Week, and have been hooked until the wee hours of the night since I can play while lying in bed.

I was surprised that the airship was introduced early, when it turned out to be just a "taste" and the airship had to be rammed to a rock to get to another area.

Besides being able to change jobs, which I haven't been able to do in any of the other versions I've played, the miniaturization spell to be able to get into the gnome village is also interesting.

Behind the "Seen"s

We should have something like this locally, but I don't think the audiences or even the stars themselves will understand the part about playing themselves or a mockery of themselves alongside actors who are playing other people.

As well as the throwaway references to illegal habits and manipulation of ethics to get deals done.

I went through the entire Season 3 in one sitting. Not my best accomplishment so far.

Fishing

This is not about the movie again, but about a new method of testing the waters afforded by technology.

Let's say that you have an acquaintance you've drifted apart from. Before it used to be that they'd send you generic quotes or jokes, so that if you don't respond or send anything similar, they can come to their own conclusions about the state of your friendship ("he's just busy", "she's ignoring my texts", "he sent his own quote, he feels the same about me", "she went to the extent of composing a message to say the joke I sent is funny; she still likes me".

That's not enough for some people though. They now have to send you missed calls. If you send a text message in reply, they might think you still believe the relationship can go back to the way it was. They can even say they forgot to lock their phone and it just called you automatically.

I'd believe that, except that the two times it's happened, the night before I was in contact with another close friend of theirs, which they probably heard about...

Alive Again

I first posted about dying (actually killing my character) in Urban Dead about two weeks ago, and I have only been revived now.

It's the longest I've ever been dead so far, and I guess that's part of the remaining charm of the game for me, even if I can't acquire any new skills anymore.

Bad Influence

Just like Entourage, which I'm also watching right now, this film shows how the desperate need for artists to get their ideas done on the screen allow them to succumb to people with loads of money and their own agenda: namely getting a part for their mistresses in the finished movie, even if it means compromising the original concept - such as changing a doomed painter to a photographer for modernness, and enlarging the part of the said regarded females.

I wonder if the same is true for the local industry...

If There Are Sore Losers, There Are Also Ungracious Winners

Some people can't take the agony of defeat, but some also don't know how to accept victory humbly, even when the success isn't really theirs.

The Best of Non Technological Teaching Methods

As I mentioned in csi, here is the foot-long eraser being sold in the US for almost twenty dollars. Why are we stuck with the five inch ones here?

Learn to Choose Your Battles

Some fans believe this to be contradictory to Kenny Rogers' other song, Coward of the County, but I don't think so.

It just means you have to pick the right time to fight, and "when to walk away, when to run", like is being against the issue of "no smoking" really the best first impression you want to give to the person who makes the ultimate decisions in your company?

Fundamental Differences

This is not about the movie again, but as usual a movie poster sometimes fully illustrates what I want to say.

I've encountered it before, but only recently very distinctly, how men and women see things differently. A female friend was talking before about not liking the Patrick Demspey character in the most recent episode of Grey's Anatomy for what he did. I just watched the same episode last night and I feel it's the girl's fault and he's the slighted one.

Not that I'll ever tell her; boy would that be a long drawn out "conversation".

Burn, Baby, Burn

Just a thought from yesterday's combat robot competition. Everyone loves destruction (which explains the popularity of monster truck rallies) but especially destruction by flames.
